About my work:
I aim to make paintings that are guttural and cerebral. I do this by exploring color, composition, texture, and various other elements. The process of making a painting is just as important as the original idea. I rely on a bit of frustration and struggle in order to arrive at a finished painting that feels right. Often times I will repaint an area multiple times and, for me, that process gives the painting a life that I wouldn't have been able to plan out from the beginning. Mistakes can make something feel human, which is what I hope to instill in my paintings.
I was born and raised in Phoenix, AZ where I received my B.F.A. from Arizona State University. I've lived in Seattle, WA since 2006. In 2015, I received a Masters in Teaching from the University of Washington. I spend my days painting in the studio and raising my wonderful daughter with my lovely partner Sarah.
